Scientists have a general idea of when humans first started wearing clothes. Their conclusions come from genetic studies of the common body louse. The body louse feeds on humans but needs clothing to stay on in order to do so. The studies show that humans first began to wear clothes some around 72,000 years ago give or take. The human has existed in his present form, Homo sapiens, for around 200,000 years, so the numbers show that most likely for more than half the existence of our species, we all were nudists.

The motivation to dress up came not from a fashion perspective but as a response to changing climatic conditions. In times past the weather was warmer and the body was hairy enough to stay warm without any help. As time passed, it became colder and man needed to cover up to keep warm. Today, there are people who just do not want to wear any clothes. These people are called nudist and they would rather stay without any clothes or as little as possible.

Today, you will still find many cultures where clothes are not worn at all. There is mounted pressure to get these cultures civilized and dressed up. Greece has been one culture that has embraced nudism for many years. The word nude is derived from Greek word, gymnos which means gymnasium. From this alone, you can see the deeply connection between sports and scanty dressing. It is perfectly acceptable for sports men and women to hit the game wearing next to nothing.

There are those who enjoy being naked and not for any ulterior motives. They are not prostitutes or homosexuals as many people would think. These are simply people who do not care much for clothes and love hanging out in their natural state. Of course this is not easy for many to understand and these clubs have experienced a lot of resistance. You will find people of all ages and from any part of the world in these clubs. Believe it or not, there is nothing sinister happening.

While others view nakedness as being evil and something to be frown upon, the nudist seems nakedness as a form of purity. How can nakedness be evil when man was born naked? A nudist views his beliefs as not only noble but also much healthier and cheaper in the long run. Many are concerned that being naked and exposed to the sun is a health risk but they would rather find a way around this than give up their belief. You can be sure that there are many recreational centers as well as hotels that support them.

New things are always view with an air of suspicion, especially when those new things have anything to do with nakedness. Nudism is a concept or a lifestyle yet to be accepted by the general public who cannot understand why anyone would want to be naked. However, it is clear that this new movement is here to stay and people need to take time to figure it out and accept it as part of life.
